Google buys Zagat; what does it mean for Google, Zagat — and Yelp?

What does this mean for the consumer?

1. If you like the Zagat guide, it would seem to imply that it’s not going anywhere. Expect more web content, but one thing that has been unanswered thus far: Will there be changes to the book publishing?

2. More user reviews on the internet. But don’t forget that Zagat’s user reviews, for better or worse, are more curated and editorialized than, say, Yelp’s.

3. Also, it will be interesting to see if Google removes the paywall currently blocking much of Zagat’s web content.
